Cyrus Kabiru | Caribbean Sun | 2012

Cyrus Kabiru is one of the most exciting of the younger artists to have emerged from Nairobi over the last few years. Kabiru recently completed his first international exhibition at Kuntspodium T Gallery in Tilburg, Holland which included an installation of his signature “C Stunner glasses” made from recycled materials – each with its own story – together creating a powerful metaphor for the way Africa is perceived by the outside world and vice versa. Kabiru’s “glasses” have been featured in Africa’s leading fashion and Arts Magazine, Arise and he has been nominated for awards by the Sandbox network for young innovators. I believe in being a leader, trying new things before anyone else and challenging the status quo. If youre the creative type, those attributes may come natural within yourself or in your surroundings whom share the same ambitions.
Earlier this evening I was reading an article about Marjane Satrapi, the director of ” Persepolis. ” I found a paragraph that let me know, within all the talk shows and super hype and celebrity, there is a crowd who still aches for originality and helping create a new crease within our brains. Below within the quotes is the paragraphs i read that stood out, like the sudden sun rays on a gray and cloudy day.

With me, I just don’t understand why I should do what people tell me to do. The majority is always wrong. I mean if the majority was right, then we would live in a better world. But the world is not good, which means that the majority is always, always wrong. “

I grow aware of various forms of man and of myself. I am form and I am formless, I am life and I am matter, mortal and immortal. I am one and many — myself and humanity in flux. I extend a multiple of ways in experience in space. I am myself now, lying on my back in the jungle grass, passing through the ether between satellites and stars. My aging body transmits an ageless life stream. Molecular and atomic replacement change life’s composition. Molecules take part in structure and in training, countless trillions of them. After my death, the molecules of my being will return to the earth and sky. They came from the stars. I am of the stars.

If I could Only choose one music artist’s music to listen to for the rest of my life, it probably be Bjork. “Possibly Maybe” is possibly, maybe one of my favorite songs of hers.
